Last night’s Winter Solstice festivities rolled right into this afternoon. Turned out to be something of an old school reunion, most of us rocking since the 90’s & still rolling. My mate Messy & I downed a couple of taaasty cocktails on the town before heading Northside to the Bernard Shaw’s new premises. Andy Weatherall was scheduled to play from 1am til 3. He was on the decks before I knew what was happening & we were fast coming up on our E’s. Then the gig was over in the blink of a bloodshot eye!
Messy was extra determined to find an afterparty & so she did…right down the road, fair play to her! Baz, our host, was an absolute sweetheart! He seated himself beside me & started strumming away on his guitar. I was all eyes & ears. We promptly found each other on Facebook. Meeting you has made my night! I messaged him, from the comfort of his living room. When I let him know I had sent him a message, he couldn’t wait to see it. I can make your night even better! He replied. Grow up? Never! It’s a trap!
So got seriously loved up with Baz, as I do. Donegalese easy like a Sunday morning motherfucker as it turned out…only wanna be your one life stand, innit. Not. My good neighbour Sorin wanted to check him out later but Baz had swiftly unfriended me on Facebook by then. Another one bites the muff. Another one bites the dust.
Strolled homeward on a sunny Sunday afternoon. Felt like I was floating on air. In defiance of the Law Of Gravity.
Arrived home to shock & horror at my attire…Faith you’re gonna give someone a heart attack dressed like that! Get some clothes on! I submitted & threw my big fluffy dressing gown on over my scant clothing…the party wasn’t over yet!
It’s not over yet! I hung about the garden for the evening, smoking like the Storm Trooper that I am. I just knew I was about to be asked out by some mystery man. Couldn’t imagine who it would be……
‘Twas Sorin! Ya wanna go for drinks in The Maldron? I’ll join ya for a nightcap! Feeling angelic so I was. I had a nightcap alright, a deeelicious long slow glass of Merlot. And I was no longer feeling so angelic. That’s it, I declared to Sorin. I’m off. Going dancing. No point bouncing about my bed sleepless all night. Missed yoga practice today. Gotta go burn some of my beans ’cause I’m bloody full of ’em.
Off I trotted south & hit Izakaya like a bullet! I had completely forgotten the Christmas crowds…22nd of December, Sunday night…the place was hopping! The crowd at the bar was 3 foot thick. Didn’t take me long at all to muscle right in for a Fizzy Ginger cocktail with Tequila la la.
To the dancefloor with my ice-filled refreshment. Half the place mad out of it, dancing like feckin’ spastics! You’re the only girl on the dancefloor who can dance! Wooed Emer, one of my partners in crime on the tiles. She was maaad out of it! Love buzzing with buzzers, no matter what state I’m in or not in! Sobriety sucks everything alcohol-free. Sober means sad. Our Father Who Art In Heaven, Give Us This Day Our Daily Drink! I’ve done my time in AA in 2018, completed my 12 Steps & come out the other side saying Drink! Feck! Arse!
Also visited NA. Once only. On the persuasion of my former counsellor, nice Nick. He was way too nice for my liking. Nice like a goody 2 shoes! Couldn’t handle my refusal to follow in his goody goody footsteps. Narcotics Anonymous was not for me…anymore than Alcoholics Anonymous. Met my mate Dariusz straight after the meeting, which was at midday & went on the lash. I’m kinda busy! I’m kinda beersy!
Izakaya was rocking till 3.30am & then we all rolled out of the club into the mania & mayhem that had infested George’s Street after club Goddamned closing times. Late bars close at 2.30am fair enough…what we need are early bars opening until 11am. Ha!
Climbed into my leaba, feet aching, round 5am Monday morning & slept like a big baby till 5pm Monday. The bed was awash with sweat. Becoming a regular occurrence! Can’t complain, such a detox! But I told my bed I wouldn’t be back for a looong time. Before I’d had a moment to contemplate to what mischief I might get up this Monday night, my mate Jesse messaged me. What ya at? I’m smoking, coking, drinking… wanna come over?
I was on the Luas & over to his at the speed of light! As the night wore on, Jesse was wondering how I was planning on getting home. Taxi! Ah, we can have a late one so. I like late ones! How late? Sunrise! Yeah, we’ll watch the sunrise! So it was…we watched the sun come up, smoking delicious dube in Jesse J.’s beautifully kept back garden facing east, towards the rising sun.
Christmas Eve Eve thus rock & rolled into Christmas Eve. The bright Christmas I’ve been dreaming of is upon us & I’m on it like a car bonnet! Enjoying the brightest build-up to Christmas I have ever had!
