Desperately trying to get a foothold
Scrambling up the side of a cliff
Slowly sliding, slipping southwards
Can’t hold on, can’t get a grip.
I fall to my death, landing on my bed
Suddenly, I’m wide awake
Eyes wide open, all is in darkness
Lying in my bed, I’m perfectly safe.
So relieved, I close my eyes
Go back to sleep & dream some more
Once again I’m on a cliffside
Facing peril as I softly snore.
Awaken to the dawn as I die again
Sunlight brings me peace of mind
Won’t sleep again, I jump out of bed
Night may be cruel but day is kind.
